Tyler

This handsome lil man needed to go into emergency surgery last night. His shunt had broke off and needed to be replaced... again... Surgery went well but please keep him in your prayers! Too many brain surgeries for him, but they are so grateful to have good neurosurgeons who take care of him! If you want to read more about what happened, you can check out Nancy's blog here! Tyler is such a special lil boy! I hope he has a fast recovery. I love you Bubba

Rollercoaster of Life

What a week of emotion! I am not going to get into details about it because everyone that needs to know already knows. But I have learned a lot! I have learned that I am not going to be a doormat to step on anymore and that is EXACTLY how I feel at the moment and I know that is not how it was meant to make me feel. I was put under a lot of stress and it caused me to have my bad migraines again and it took MANY days to get rid of it. I know that all the crying didn't help any! :) I just don't need anymore stressers in my life!

I am SOO glad that my lil buddy Maxwell is doing better! He was taken into surgery yesterday. That little stinker decided that money goes into his belly and he swallowed a quarter. The quarter got stuck in his throat and stopped his breathing. My brave sister-in-law ended up having to call the ambulance to come and he had to go to surgery to remove the quarter. This will be a trip to Connecticut that they will never forget! :) Dr. Barrett was still in Missouri because he was working, so his daddy was not able to be there. But there were a lot of prayers being said for Maxwell by his family! We love you Maxwell and we are so glad you are doing better and we are so glad that you have a fast acting Mommy that knew what to do! You surely are a daddy's boy! :)

Well, I better get back to work!

Hairy Plums

Today I had the follow-up with the surgeon. Everything is healing right! YAY! She removed the sterry strips and put new ones on. I have had 2 incisions that have been leaking more then the others so I asked her about it. She said the one in the belly button will leak more because it is bigger and that is where they took the gallbladder out (I know everyone wanted to know that!) and there is 1 on the side that is leaking and she said that she applied a topical anesthetic so that is why it is leaking and it has a little more color to it. But I just have to keep the belly button one dry after the shower (q-tip) and they will be fine. The sterry strips will once again slowly curl up and peel off. Yesterday I drove up to my house from my parents. I was ready to stop driving by the time I got home. It was a long drive and I really didn't realize it until now. I stopped at Tammy and Josh's to drop off stuff that mom and dad had in my car for them. I stole Lexi and she came to my house with me. She was such a good helper. She unloaded my whole car for me. I cannot thank her enough for doing that. It was really hard for me to carry things and I didn't realize that it would be so hard. After we/Lexi unloaded the car, Lexi picked peaches off the tree at my house. She said for me to pay her back for helping her, I will give her peaches. She was really funny about them.

I stayed with the kids last night while Tammy and Josh went to a play at Hale Theatre, Lexi helped me out alot again. She really is a lot of help! She was eating a peach and she told me that she is just going to call them "Hairy Plums". It took me a minute to realize what she was saying but then I had to tell her they are peaches! She also wasn't too sure about the "hair" on them and if it was ok to eat it.

Thanks again for helping me Lexi! You are such a big help! You really did help me out. I will find a way to say thank you!

Surgery Update

I am down my parents! I had to be at St Marks 7:15 yesterday morning. My parents got to my house around 6:45. My dad gave me a priesthood blessing then we went to St Marks. They got me back into a room but then they told us that my dr had an emergency surgery she ended up doing so my surgery got pushed back from 8:15 to 9:15. Me and dad fell back to sleep and mom went back to playing her Soduku. Soon they came back in to take me to pre-op and get me hooked up to IV. Mom and Dad rode with us in the elevator. It only took the pre-op nurse 1 poke to get the IV in!! YAY!! When the anesthesiologist came to take me to the operating room, he was putting a medication in my IV and said that it wasn't the main medicine but it would start to calm me down (I wasn't nervous) and my nurse jokingly said "Nicky, the only thing you need to remember is your nurses are Miss America and her runner-up" and then the other techs said "And the rest of your team is the "A" Team" so we laughed about that and I said that I could remember that. They were putting something on my legs so I asked what they were, a tech said it was it make sure my blood my circulating and then the anesthesiologist put something on my head (not sure what it was) but he said that it was to watch my brain waves. That was the last thing I remember. Next thing I remember I was in recovery. I was crying because my belly hurt, so the nurse that was with me gae me pain meds in the IV. I remember asking them, "Did they end up having to cut me open?" Then I fell back to sleep. I could hear her talking on the phone to someone. But I was out of it! They took me back to my room in Pre-Op and mom and dad were there waiting for me. I kept going in and out of sleep. The nurses there were NOT good!!! I would sleep because I was bored. I just wanted to go home! Dad went and talked to them about coming in and checking my iv because the antibiotics they gave me had run out, and they never came in. We finally left at about 3. Mom and Dad took me back to my house so I could take a pain pill. While we were at the hospital getting ready to leave, I told the nurse I was starting to be in pain again, but she said the only thing I have ordered that they could give me is morphine and if they give that to me then I would have to stay another half hour for them to monitor me. I told them it was fine, I have pain pills at my house and to just let me go. So I got home and laid down and rested while Mom and Dad went to go see Tammy and the kids and they dropped off my meds at Wal-Mart. We left SLC around 4:30-5 to head back to EC. As soon as we got home, I went to bed.

I woke up today before mom and dad! I know, crazy! They slept in! It was after 8:30 or so when they woke up! WOW!! I am only hurting on the incisions on the side right now. The numbness is coming out of them so I am little more tender now. But I do feel a WHOLE lot better.

Dr Kolc (the surgeon) said that I needed that gallbladder out. While she was in with the laser, she took a look around, she told mom and dad that I do have some endometriosis and I need to talk to Dr Anderson about getting changed on another birth control. So I will call him and let him know. She was a really good surgeon and I would recommend her to anyone (maybe not St Marks hospital) but definately her!

So, now I am done with surgery and just going to recover. I am already feeling a lot better. I can actually sit up straight without pain! I know that isn't much, but for a whole month, that would cause me so much pain!! I will keep you updated on my recovery. The past 2 Labor Day weekends I have had surgeries (knee surgery last year) I am going to break the tradition now. No more surgery! :) Next year I am going to ENJOY the holiday!

Surgery Update

I met with Dr.Kolc today at 10:00. She will be doing my surgery. She was very nice and it was nice to go to the dr for the pain in my abdomen and for once, not have them push on it! Surgery is scheduled for Friday. I won't know the time until Thursday but Dr.Kolc said that I will probably be one of her first patients that day. This past weekend I have been really nauseated and nothing seems to help. Today I have been in a lot of pain! So I am really looking forward to this! I don't have to work on Monday because it is Labor Day (WAHOO!) so that is 1 more day to recover! So there is the update.. Friday is the day for surgery to get this gallbladder out..
