Memorial Day Weekend

The plans of Memorial Day Weekend didn't end up going like they were planned. I worked Friday night and traffic going south Friday night is always A-W-F-U-L! So, I decided to just get some sleep and get up Saturday morning and head home. Traffic down the canyon wasn't bad at all. I made it down to OV around 10:30, stopped at mom and dads to make the potty break then headed up to Joe's Valley. We just sat around the fire and talked. It was really relaxing.. Then it started to rain and so we went into the trailer. Dad bought a new TV with a DVD player and we watched Karate Kid. Mom made the famous puppy chow (YUM!) Me and dad were on the bed watching the movie and I fell asleep. Mom was at the table and she read her book. She was so excited because she read a book in 24 hours. After the movie, we drove down to OV to call Morgan for her birthday. But nobody answered. So we got some gas for the generator and then headed back up to the mountains. When we got up to camp, it was nice weather so we decided to start making the tin foil dinner. Mom and Dad made them PERFECT! Right when we got done eating, it starting raining again. So we loaded everything up and went back into the trailer. We stuck in another movie and mom started yet another book. I of course, fell asleep so they got my bed ready and all 3 of us were to bed by about 8-9. We were so exhausted. About 10 there came a pounding at the trailer door. I yelled "DAD! Someone is at the door" I was having a dream that another camper was coming after us so I needed my dad to open the door, lol. he jumped up and shook the trailer. He got to the door and it was Officer Gail Jensen. He was told to come up and tell us that Grandpa was taken over to Castleview Hospital. Mom asked him if he knew why, he said that all he knew is he was taken by ambulance. We knew it was something serious if they sent the police to come and get us. So we all jumped up and got the bags packed and jumped in the truck and headed home. We got to the house, took a quick shower so we wouldn't smell like campfire then we were on our way. Grandpa was on his way to Provo for kidney and liver failure. We made it up to UVRMC around 3. We all got some sleep in the ICU waiting room and took turns going in the room to spend time with grandpa. Me and my parents left Provo yesterday around 2 or 2:30 to head back down to OV so we could get the trailer and my car off the mountain. It was raining so much up there. Lowry Creek was pretty full! We got it down just fine but we were all pretty exhausted. I came home to Salt Lake today. I stopped at the hospital to see Grandpa. He looked at me and said that he knows that I am someone he should know. I said he's right. I'm his granddaughter, I'm Lori's daughter Nicky. After that, Kristi and Mitch came in and they asked him if he knew who they were. He said of course I do.. You're Nicky Vicky and Nicky Micky. There were a few times he even called out for Grandma Nell saying that he was ready and "let's go Nell"

So this memorial day weekend wasn't what was planned. I had camping and fishing planned and it turned into camping and rushing to the hospital to be with grandpa. Is there anyway I can turn back time? Oh well, the weather wasn't all that great to go camping and fishing anyway.. I do know that I am tired of being so emotional. I started crying at the hospital when Grandpa looked at me in the eyes and said "Nicky, you have such beautiful eyes" my mom was there and I just couldn't hold back the tears. I just started crying. He had even gone back in time to where he wanted to go to talk to the students. He wanted to talk to Nicky and Nancy's teachers at the elementary. And he needed to talk to a member of the school board and even the principal. I asked him well what about talking to Barrett and Tammy and he said he can't talk to Barrett because he is 2000 miles away and he could talk to Tammy. He said the teachers needed to be on one end of the table and him on the other. The nurses were laughing. They asked what he taught. He said "I taught for 19 years and you don't remember!" He has a sense of humor for sure! But he sure did keep telling me that he loves me.

Well, I'm off to bed. I took a nap when I got home from traveling from EC. It's just been an exhausting weekend. Keep Grandpa Rue in your prayers!

Happy Mothers Day

First I want to start out by saying Happy Mothers Day to my own Mother. There aren't words to express how much I love her and how much she means to me. You have always been there for me. Here are somethings about my mom on why I love her so much:
*Always there for me, even when I thought I didn't need her
*Takes care of when I've had my surgeries.
*She is a great listener and a great mom.
*Her and dad pray for all the kids daily and they are very specific in their prayers.
*She understands me when others don't.
*I love sitting on the floor in front of her and having her play with my hair. Or I will lay my head in her lap (the small lap she has hehe) and have her run her fingers through my hair.
*Most of all, I love her so much because she is my mom! If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be half the person I was today!
*And MANY MANY MORE!
Happy Mothers Day MOM!! I love you!

Tammy~ You are my oldest sister. Again, no words can express how much I love and appreciate her and everything she does for me. Here are things I love about her:
*You have taught me so much
*Have 3 kids who I totally adore. I love when Koy lays down by me, he says "Icky lay down on me" and he pats his belly. I call him my snuggle muffin and he tells me he's my shadow.
*Tammy is such an unselfish mother and very grateful for her children!
*Hard worker for her family.
*Loves to do crafts when she is able to. One year she made me a scrapbook for my birthday of my nieces and nephews (which by the way you need to add Max, Tyler, and Koy)
*I know you are going through a rough time right now, just remember we're your family and we love you. Do what's best for your kids.
*I love you Tammy, you're one of my best friends. I'm glad you live only 5 minutes away!
*AND MANY MANY MORE!
Happy Mothers Tammy! I love you!

Chantel~ You are my sister in law but I don't look at you like that... You are part of the family like everyone else.. whether you like it or not.. TOUGH! :) Here are some things that I love about Chantel (and there are MANY more):
*You married my brother!
*You have stuck by him through med school and been a big support to him.
*2 adorable little kids (I HEAR they can be a little sassy, I don't believe it!:))
*You are VERY crafty and you own your business of making hair bows.
*You are a great listener. You always tell me that if I need to talk that I can call you. That really means a lot to me.
*You are very supportive to me. The time I was admitted to the hospital, I remember you and Barrett drove down from Logan to be with me. That really meant a lot.
*AND MANY MANY MORE
*I want you to know that you are part of the Labrum family... You are my sister... Not JUST my sister-in-law.
Happy Mother Day Chantel. I love you!

Nancy~ You are my older sister. I know we have had many fights throughout the years. Some are over little petty things that big sis/little sis fight over. But I think that we can both say that we have grown up. There are so many things why I love you, here are a few:
*You endeavor many trials every day with our little man Tyler
*You have 1 very special little boy name.... BUBBA! aka TYLER
*You and Dallas are doing so well down in the hot AZ sun.
*You are a great listener and from what I hear, you understand everyone! :)
*I love our daily talks and being able to talk to Tyler.
*I know we butt heads a lot, I just want people to accept me for me. And I can tell you're learning how I am.
*You try to understand my feelings but I don't think anyone truly will. And you know what I'm talking about when I say that.
*I love your support. You and Dallas are always so supportive of me and my choices.
*And MANY MANY MORE
Happy Mothers Day Nancy! I love you!

Happy Birthday Tammy

Yes I took the picture from your family picture and cropped it so it is JUST YOU! I had no pictures of you without a child! :) I have a good one of you after you just had Kayden, be glad I didn't post that one! :) I hope you have a good birthday. I want you to know that I think you doing the best you can for the kids. You are my oldest sister, I have to give you crap! You're a 2nd mom to me! :) Sometimes I don't like things you tell me because you're being a mom to me but I know you guys are just looking out for me. I'm glad you just live 5 minutes away from me (literally) and those kids make me so happy! I love hearing little Koy say "ICKY!" or Kayden pointing his little finger at me and saying "go away Nicky" and then Koy has to copy him. Lexi is growing up to be a beautiful young lady. Just keep doing what you're doing and you will make the right decisions. Remember what I told you the other day on the phone. I didn't say any of it to make anyone feel bad.. Just know I love you and I always will. We're family, that's what we do!

I found this quote and I liked it and thought it might fit well in our situation:

Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city.

Happy Birthday....

I am going to DOUBLE POST... :)

Happy Birthday DAD tomorrow (May 4) You have always been there for me no matter what. you are such a good example of everything that I want in a husband. You do so much for mom. You are such a great dad, husband, friend and grandpa. I look at what you have done for the family over the years and I don't know how you do it! I know that if I ever need anything, I can always call you up and get you on your phone. Sometimes I just like to call you just to talk. You have taught me so much. I am so glad that you are my dad! I couldn't ask for anyone better. I hope you had a good weekend in St.George! The award couldn't have gone to anyone better! I love you dad!

Happy Birthday MOM on Tuesday (May 5). I look at everything you have had to go through the past few months and I don't know how you do it. But then I look at the person you are, and you are one strong person. I really admire that about you. You and Dad have always been by my side with the decisions I have made. You are a great mother, wife, friend and grandma. I have looked up to you as a mother and I know the kind of wife and mother I want to be when my time comes. I love you mom!

Happy Birthday! You guys make it so easy not to forget your birthdays! :) And I don't want to hear how Mom kept Dad up since day 1 in the hospital or vice versa :) Because when I go home, you BOTH keep me up. Now that summer is coming up, I am glad that you can go camping and fishing together and now Mom has broke out of her shell and learned the new found glory of four-wheeling or as Kayden says "FOUR-RIDING" As I was looking through my pictures, the ONLY picture I have of just you guys is when I went fishing with just the 3 of us last year. That weekend meant a lot to me. It was so much fun! Even though we almost slid off the mountain. But we were doing something we all enjoy..

I love you!
